Terms to know

Here are some terms to know:

[6] Global Warming - an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect.

[7] Greenhouse gases - any of the gases whose absorption of solar radiation is responsible for the greenhouse effect, including carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and the fluorocarbons.

[8] Carbon footprint - the amount of carbon dioxide or other carbon compounds emitted into the atmosphere by the activities of an individual, company, country, etc.

[9] SimaPro - A tool to perform professional life cycle assessment (LCA) studies. It comes with a large database and a number of impact assessment methods.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) - LCA is a method to assess the environmental aspects and potential impacts associated with a product, process, or service. The method is practiced through compiling relevant energy and material inputs and outputs, evaluation potential environmental impacts, and interpreting the results to make more informed decision [10].
